Home > Learning Center > FAQ: Vanilla from orchids

Q: I heard that vanilla actually comes from an orchid plant…
Is this true?

A: Yes, it is true. Vanilla, one of our most popular flavorings, is actually derived from orchids in the genus Vanilla. Vanilla orchids are generally used and sold as whole bean, powder, or extract. True vanilla is, however, quite expensive. The vanilla extract that most of use has only a small amount of low quality vanilla or artificial vanilla-like falvaroing.
