Q: I want to grow an orchid flower in my home.
Which is the best (and easiest) orchid to grow at home?
A: The phalaenopsis orchid (aka moth orchid). This is
the easiest to grow in the home, and it also happens to be the most
widely available on the mass market. The phalaenopsis orchid will grow
in lower light conditions. Place your phalaenopsis orchid near a slightly
shaded south window, or an east or west window. Once you have succeeded
in properly caring for this type of orchid flower, you may want to move
on and try the paphiopedilum orchid (aka slipper orchid). Do not allow
either of these types of orchids to dry out; keep them both relatively
moist. Also, fertilize regularly (about once a month) with a weak and
diluted fertilizer.
